The first tourist train from Xi’an, China has arrived in
Almaty, bringing over 250 guests from the fields of tourism, science, medicine,
sports, and culture. The visitors are scheduled to take part in excursions and
meetings in Almaty.
«This is my first visit to Almaty. I’m very impressed by
both the city and its people. I’m especially amazed by the nature and
hospitality here. I believe we have a very interesting and enriching program
ahead. I’m confident this project will be the start of a long-term partnership,»
said Jing Qu Bo, a tourist from China.
China’s Xi’an—a city at the origins of the ancient Silk
Road—is now part of a revived historical route. This tourism initiative aims to
strengthen cultural dialogue between Kazakhstan and China.
«Kazakhstan and China currently have a visa-free regime. In
2024, around 700,000 Chinese tourists visited Kazakhstan, each spending an
average of approximately $1,500. This undoubtedly benefits the national
economy,» said Nurtas Karipbayev, Chairman of the Committee at the Kazakh
Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
Starting next year, the international route between Almaty
and Xi’an will run monthly. Launched as part of the Year of China Tourism in Kazakhstan,
it symbolizes a new phase in the development of bilateral relations.
