Kazakhstan plans to bring transport industry’s share in GDP to 9%

The Kazakh Ministry of Transport is set to increase the transport industry’s share in Kazakhstan’s GDP to nine percent by 2026, as instructed by the country’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Kazakhstan currently operates 13 international transport corridors, including five railway and eight road corridors. Reconstruction is underway on 11,000 kilometers of roads, with full completion of repairs scheduled for next year. Meanwhile, about 900 kilometers have already been put into operation in 2023. In general, Kazakhstan intends to strengthen its position as a key transit hub, with a particular focus on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the maritime ports on the Caspian Sea. At a government meeting, Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov instructed to take measures to ensure sea ferry construction from 2024. He also noted the need to address the regulation of strategic access routes, consider the establishment of an Institute for the Development of Transport and Logistics, and provide land reservations for infrastructure projects related to road and railway development.
