New reservoir under construction in Turkistan region

A new reservoir is being constructed in the Turkistan region at the confluence of the Bala Bogen and Ulken Bogen rivers. With a capacity of 68 million cubic meters of water, it will collect floodwater and direct it to the Bogen reservoir during the irrigation period. The length of the hydraulic structure dam is expected to be almost two kilometers, and height - 26 meters. Notably, the construction of the Sarkyrama canal is underway to regulate water flow from the Baidibek Ata reservoir to the Bogen reservoir.

«We are focused on providing water to Turkistan city and the Turkistan region. A total of 40 million cubic meters of water from the reservoir will flow into the region through the Sarkyrama canal. The completion of the hydraulic structure construction will enable to provide water for local needs by September or October,» said water management veteran Ilyas Alibekov.

The Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has developed the Concept of water resources management system development until 2030. This will provide for the construction of two hydraulic structures in the Turkistan region, including Baidibek Ata and Boraldai, to direct an additional 113 million cubic meters of water to the Bogen reservoir.
