Kazakhstan will begin using locally developed
scientific innovations in road construction and maintenance. These include
bitumen and soil additives, mineral powder, road marking paint, and a
rejuvenating compound for pavement. The new materials are expected to reduce
material consumption by up to 30% and extend the lifespan of highways from the
current 5 years to 7 years. Testing of the know-how will begin this year.
«We have to test them for at least two years
in different weather conditions before full-scale adoption. Some materials
developed in Kazakhstan are already in use. We also started studying solid
fossil waste materials available at the Qarmet and ERG bases last year and plan
to test them in specific locations this year,» said Kazakh Minister of
Transport Marat Karabayev.
Kazakhstan plans to modernize approximately
6,000 kilometers of highways by 2035. This year, repair work will cover 13,000
kilometers. The government is also offering preferential terms to domestic
companies involved in the projects.
«Kazakh companies participating in tenders or
consortia with foreign firms are granted a conditional discount of up to 23%.
Projects include Karagandy-Zhezkazgan, Aktobe-Ulgaisyn, and the bypass road
around Saryagash,» Karabayev added.
