Celebrations marking the 180th anniversary of the great
Kazakh poet, philosopher, and enlightener Abai Kunanbaiuly have begun in Semei.
As part of the jubilee events, an ethno-auyl (ethno-village) has opened,
featuring more than ten yurts. Theatrical performances reflecting Kazakh
customs, traditions, and national values are being held near each yurt.
Visitors can try traditional Kazakh cuisine, attend various exhibitions, and
enjoy concerts by local artists. The ethno-auyl will also host open city
championships in Qazaq kuresi, togyzkumalak, assyk atu, and other national
sports. The regional artisans’ festival Asyl Mura has also kicked off, with
leading craftspeople showcasing traditional clothing, jewelry, and handmade
leather, felt, and wooden items.
«I made a replica of Abai Kunanbaiuly’s original hunting
belt, specially for the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet and
philosopher. I created it for the younger generation, so that in the future, by
seeing it, they can picture the era he lived in and understand him more deeply,»
said artisan Saken Nazarkhanuly.
