Caspian Sea Research Institute to launch operations in Kazakhstan

The Caspian Sea Research Institute is set to begin operations in Kazakhstan within the next month. Its specialists will focus on monitoring the sea’s condition and developing effective proposals to address its shrinking. Meanwhile, the relevant ministry continues to track the Caspian’s status and is preparing a set of protective measures. According to the ministry, the sea level has dropped by 26 centimeters over the past year alone. Scientists will study the impact of human activity on the situation, as well as issues related to river inflow. Overall, around 850 million tenge will be allocated for the institute’s equipment and operations. The announcement was made at an international environmental conference in Astana.

«Currently, funds from the local budget are being used to purchase equipment, with significant support from the local administration. Additional funding from the state budget will cover staff, facilities, and further equipment needs,» said Daulet Yesmagambetov, Head of the Department at the Kazakh Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
