Biosafety test developed in Kazakhstan

A special test developed by experts at a Kazakh-Chinese Joint Laboratory for Biological Safety will help Kazakh farmers independently check their agricultural products for antibiotics or infectious diseases in just 10 minutes starting next year. According to the head of the institution Zhanar Akanova, the veterinary device differs from foreign analogues only in low price, but not in quality. It bears noting that after the domestic development is put into wide production, it will soon be available in Kazakhstan’s specialized veterinary shops.

“The test systems and test kits are ready. The next step is testing and commercializing these kits. The rapid test is well-modernized and includes a minimum number of reagents required. Thus, everything will be in the kit. The farmer will only need milk and the body fluid of animals. In general, it is now really important to solve such a big problem as antibiotic resistance. Rapid tests will help us eliminate this product immediately,” said Akanova.

It should be noted that the Kazakh-Chinese Joint Biosafety Laboratory has been working within China’s Belt and Road Initiative for a number of years. It has been accredited in Kazakhstan and is currently waiting for the relevant approval from China. This will allow domestic products to expand their export opportunities in the Chinese market.

“To date, the veterinary and epizootic situation in Kazakhstan is stable. We are awaiting the arrival of two expert groups from China to address the issue of increasing goods export. When the specialists arrive, they will comprehensively discuss the issues of solving the restrictions, inspect a number of enterprises in the country, and audit the entire veterinary system of Kazakhstan,” said Baurzhan Abyzbayev, spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture.
