Astana Opera presented the ballet Coppélia at the Dance Open
International Festival in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The production, based on
the French version by composer Léo Delibes and choreographed by the legendary
Roland Petit, tells the story of a young man who falls in love with a
mechanical doll. The Kazakh artists’ performance was warmly received, with the
audience praising their high level of artistry. The interplay of light and
shadow made the production especially captivating, while the dancers' dialogue
with the audience—expressed through glances and gestures—left a lasting
impression.
«It’s a wonderful production that we staged in 2019. We’re
very proud to have it—it’s loved by both the performers and the audience. It’s
light, joyful, and full of positive energy,» said Altynai Asylmuratova, artistic
director of the Astana Opera Ballet Company.
