Betashar was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of
the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity following a committee meeting in
Paraguay’s capital. The ancient Kazakh traditional wedding ritual of
introducing the bride to the groom’s relatives has now become world heritage.
Kazakh State Counsellor Erlan Karin shared the news on his social media page.
According to experts, the inclusion of Betashar in UNESCO’s list enhances
international attention to Kazakh culture and contributes to the development of
cultural tourism in Kazakhstan. Currently, other elements of Kazakh culture
included in UNESCO’s list are the games Assyk Atu and Togyzkumalak, the
traditional art of Dombra Kuy, the Nauryz holiday, Kazakh Kuresi (wrestling),
and the poetic art of Aitys.
