Impressionism, Cubism, Surrealism. An exhibition in Astana presents original works by renowned Spanish artist Pablo Picasso in a wide range of styles and genres that span the key stages of his career. The collection is divided into distinct «paragraphs». Visitors can see sketches for Picasso’s most famous painting, Guernica, as well as his War and Peace (La Guerre et La Paix) series and Les Bleus de Barcelone, which offers a glimpse into the lives of the city residents. A separate section focuses on the post-war period and the artist’s fascination with bullfighting – Toros y Toreros. Papiers collés series highlights Picasso’s exploration of Cubism. A total of 51 lithographs have been brought to Kazakhstan’s capital from private collections in Germany, Belgium, and France. Organized by the Lumiere Hall international museum, the exhibition will run until November 9.
«The most fascinating aspect of this exhibition is that it features
works rarely shown to the public. These are sketches for his monumental and
famous painting, Guernica, and Les Bleus de Barcelone. These
pieces are seldom exhibited. Picasso’s portrait is also presented. Nevertheless, this collection is one that the public doesn’t often have the
chance to see and appreciate,» said Kulanshi Art Gallery Director Leyla Mahat.
