Remarkable original artifacts have been discovered in
ancient burials in the Atyrau region. Archaeologists uncovered them during
excavations near the village of Karabau. The collection includes approximately
a thousand items, featuring various gold ornaments and jewelry crafted in
animal-style art, as well as weapons and ceramic vessels. According to
archaeologists, all these artifacts date back to the Sarmatian era, confirming
that these tribes inhabited the region in ancient times. The Sarmatians had developed
military traditions, advanced jewelry craftsmanship, and established ritual
practices. Notably, the results of a two-year archaeological work conducted by
the Atyrau Regional Local History Museum were showcased at the «Sarmatian Gold»
exhibition.
«Research work will continue in the future, with large-scale
efforts planned. Additionally, we will involve not only archaeologists but also
anthropologists, geographers, artists, and other specialists,» said Marat
Kassenov, an archaeologist and head of the archaeological team.
