Kazakhstan aims to take its automotive industry to a new stage of
development and turn it into one of the country’s key high-tech economic
sectors. Over the past five years, 457 billion tenge has been invested in the
sector. Vehicle production has increased from 3,000 units in the industry’s
early years to more than 170,000 vehicles in 2025. The positive momentum has
continued this year, with more than 94,000 vehicles produced in the first six
months, up 35% year-on-year. Production is projected to reach 190,000 vehicles
by the end of 2026. At a government meeting, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov
instructed officials to strengthen the training of engineering specialists,
take additional measures to curb illegal vehicle imports, accelerate the
development of the automotive components industry, expand the network of EV
charging stations, and support electric vehicle battery manufacturing
projects.

to the International Energy Agency, by 2030, electric vehicles will account for
over 40% of global car sales. The global automotive industry is also rapidly
shifting toward electric trucks. Currently, around 70 EV charging stations are
operating along the country's major highways. An investment agreement was
recently signed with Car Park Transformer to build 250 roadside service
stations by 2030. It is essential to continue developing the necessary
infrastructure and creating favorable conditions for new investors,» Bektenov said.
