Kazakh craftswomen to sew 1.5-kilometer-long quilt at fifth World Nomad Games

Kazakh craftswomen are set to impress participants and guests of the fifth World Nomad Games in Astana by creating a 1.5-kilometer-long handmade patchwork quilt. The creation of the Alaman Quraq involved 500 needlewomen from all regions of the country. Each of them will bring to the capital 2.5 meters of quilt, which will form one piece. Nine-year-old Ayala Saparbek also made her contribution to the meticulous sewing of the patchwork quilt. The girl is proud that her work will be showcased at the largest sports event dedicated to national games.

«My mother is a seamstress. I grew up surrounded by designers and decided to pursue a similar path. I dream of becoming like my mother,» said artisan Ayala Saparbek.

The craftswomen had already presented a 500-meter-long quilt and earned a spot in the Book of Records of Kazakhstan. Now, they are confident that they will be able to improve their result. But most importantly, they want to familiarize the guests with the unique beauty of a traditional patchwork quilt with its patterns and ornaments, which reflect the culture of the Kazakh people.

«Our grandmothers passed down their knowledge of quilt-making, and now we should pass it on to future generations in a modern interpretation. Our goal is to demonstrate our unity and solidarity, and promote our cuture through the Alaman Quraq. We will showcase it at the games. If you look from above, it is very beautiful. We plan to enter the Guinness World Recordssaid craftswoman Bibikhadisha Zhetibayeva.
