AI labs open at university in Astana ahead of Nauryz

Digitalization of education is becoming part of modern culture and is even being integrated into Nauryz celebrations. As part of Digital Nauryz 2026, Esil University unveiled a digital alley and a hub of AI and new technology laboratories. The project aims to develop IT skills and integrate AI solutions into the educational process. Students have access to state-of-the-art equipment, work on startups, and carry out practical, hands-on projects.

«There are four laboratories. The first is for robotics, the second for artificial intelligence, and the third, Hide Vision, is a video surveillance lab where students can build complete systems themselves. The fourth is a digital inclusion office, giving people with disabilities access to all university services through digital toolssaid Ayapbergen Taubayev, rector of Esil University.

As part of the Nauryz celebrations, the university also awarded the winners of the IT Project Fest. The competition highlighted how AI is being actively integrated into the university’s educational process, from supporting applicants to assisting faculty in preparing materials.

«We are actively developing student tools, including an electronic advisor—an AI system that answers questions online. We are also introducing an AI-powered admissions office that can talk with applicants and their parents over the phone. For teachers, we've created a system that automatically generates slide decks, similar to NotebookLM and other existing solutions, and we’re also developing our own in-house tools,» said Zhangir Yessenzholov, head of the AI Laboratory at Esil University.

The spring holiday of renewal was celebrated here in a special way, with a concert program, national dances, and traditional costumes. Guests were treated to baursaks and Nauryz Kozhe, creating an atmosphere of unity and continuity in traditions.
