80 Kazakh athletes to compete in Paris Summer Olympics

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris are just a few days away. The national team of Kazakhstan will be represented by 80 athletes, vying for 81 sets of medals across 25 sports. Notably, 12 of them are from Shymkent, including Sergey Yemelyanov, who will compete in aquatic sports.

This is the most challenging race for Sergey. Athletes covering a 500-meter distance in just a few minutes must stay focused, as any unnecessary movement can lead to defeat, the canoeist notes. He is determined to win a medal, especially since he finished 12th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

«I am now much better psychologically and physically prepared for this Olympics. The preparation is going systematically. We took into account all the mistakes made in Tokyo. Representing the country in competitions is always a significant responsibility, but thanks to the support of our fans and coaches, it is much easier for us. The 500 meters in the double sculls is a sprint discipline where the entire race can be decided by a single second! This requires precise self-control. Therefore, you need to perform perfectly, demonstrating all your skills,» said Yemelyanov.

Members of the national shooting team have secured six licenses, setting a new record for Kazakhstan. All six athletes will be making their Olympic debut. Kazakh boxers have also qualified for the Paris Games with 10 licenses, including twin brothers Aibek and Nurbek Oralbay. According to their biggest supporter, the boys have a strong chance of becoming Olympic medalists.

«I contact my sons daily to check their weight, mood, and whether they are taking their vitamins. Even though they are professionals, some nervousness is inevitable. It is crucial for them to concentrate and demonstrate a high level of boxing, showcasing the perseverance and aspirations of the Kazakh people, and proudly raise our country’s flag in Paris,» said ¤Rakhat Oralbay, father of the Olympic athletes.

It is worth noting that 12 referees from Kazakhstan will be officiating at the Summer Olympics in Paris. Experts in rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, weightlifting, artistic swimming, tennis, fencing, sabre, basketball, wrestling, and boxing have been invited to judge at this major quadrennial event.
