A 72-year-old traveler Sarsenbai Kotyrashev can get into the Guinness Book of World Records. Over six months, he has traveled 8,000 kilometers on foot and has visited more than 20 cities in Kazakhstan. The pensioner has dreamed of this journey for six long years, but was able to make it only this spring. During the marathon, Kotyrashev spoke about his native land and met with craftspeople. He even collected a special catalogue of masters and handed it over to UNESCO.
“I want to prove by example that tourism is well-developed in Kazakhstan. Next year, I am planning to go travelling all over the world,” Kotyrashev shared.
“We received a proposal from the Guinness World Records staff to include the name of Sarsenbai Kotyrashev into the book. According to them, no older person has covered such a long-distance walking marathon. It is a great honor and pride for us. The popularization of Ulytau is one of the important tasks,” said marathon organizer Bakhtiyar Kozhakhmetov.
