Economic diversification will give a new impetus to the development of the Atyrau region. This task should become a priority, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized during his working trip to the region. At a meeting with local residents, the Kazakh President noted that the state policy would continue to adhere to the ‘strong regions – a strong country’ principle.
“A special economic zone ‘National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark’ has been established in the region. Tax and customs preferences are provided to companies operating within the SEZ. In addition, the state has provided various support tools to attract investment. Other major investment projects are also planned. Their implementation will contribute to the development of infrastructure, attraction of investments, and introduction of the latest technologies, as well as the creation of several thousand new jobs. These projects are essential for the diversification of the regional economy. The government and the governor’s office, together with investors, have to ensure their prompt implementation,” Tokayev said.
In addition, the Head of State highlighted that another important issue for the Atyrau region is to increase the capacity of oil storage tanks. In this regard, he gave instructions to build a large facility there. President Tokayev also noted that a focus on fisheries development in the region is just as important. Despite growing fish processing and finished products, there is a need to increase the population of sturgeon, which are in high demand in the global market, as well as to upgrade the fish hatcheries of the region.
