On October 25, Kazakhstan will mark the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of State Sovereignty — a landmark document that allowed the republic to act as an independent entity in international relations and shape its own foreign policy. Political scientist Zhenisbek Tolen believes that the Declaration not only laid the groundwork for Kazakhstan’s legal system but also defined the country’s course in the global community. Comprising 17 articles, the document became the legal foundation for the nation’s future independence.
«The Declaration became one of the main guarantors of the republic’s recognition by the
international community. Today, Kazakhstan is among the 12 countries known as “middle powers.” By pursuing a
peaceful and neutral policy, we have established friendly relations with all
states and strengthened our position,» Tolen said.
