Chairman of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition
Marat Omarov briefed President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on measures to liberalize
the economy. Systematic efforts to reduce the quasi-public sector are
continuing in Kazakhstan, with an approved plan to optimize both its entities
and state-owned assets through 2030. The total value of assets being
transferred to the competitive environment is estimated at approximately three and a half trillion tenge. The Head of State was also informed about
measures to remove barriers to business entry into product markets, as well as
new approaches to regulating the digital economy. Omarov also outlined work on
the sixth package of legislative amendments in the field of competition
protection and development, which includes seven areas aimed at improving
antitrust regulation and reducing state participation in the economy.
