Kazakhstan stands in full solidarity with the member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip. This was stated by Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu at the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit to discuss the Palestine issue. Nurtleu stressed that Kazakhstan entirely supports the legal rights of the Palestinians to the self-determination and establishment of an internationally recognized Palestinian state within 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. At the same time, resolving the Middle East crisis is possible only on the basis of the ‘two states for two peoples’ formula approved by the UN Security Council, according to Nurtleu. He also expressed concern about the situation with Kazakh citizens who are currently in the Gaza Strip and are unable to leave the territory. It should be noted that the summit resulted in adopting a resolution stating that the Gaza Strip is an inseparable part of the Palestinian territories on the west bank of the Jordan River.
“Our country fully supports the legitimate rights of Palestinians to self-determination and the creation of an internationally recognized Palestinian state. Civilians, including far too many children, women and elderly persons have become innocent victims of the conflict. Their safety remains our highest priority. I expressed this clear message to the Foreign Minister of Israel during our telephone conversation just yesterday. I also urged for an immediate cease-fire and called on to stop the current bloodshed. Kazakhstan appeals to all international and humanitarian organizations to intervene in the current extremely difficult situation in Gaza,” said Nurtleu.
