Young Kazakh inventors have created ‘smart glasses’ for the visually impaired. The device uses artificial intelligence to help users navigate their surroundings. The development is the result of the work of students from the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Turkistan. Keldibek Zhangali and Aiaru Kalbek equipped the glasses with GPS. When obstacles arise, the smart system warns the wearer in advance. Additionally, the smart glasses store contacts of the user’s family members and can send them messages via the Telegram app if needed.
«To improve our prototype, we released a second version of our device based on the Raspberry Pi microcomputer. We worked on the second prototype during the summer holidays, and by September it was ready,» said school student Keldibek Zhangali.
«Vision AI is not only an innovative project but also a tool to assist the visually impaired. It recognizes the surroundings using artificial intelligence and then accurately guides the user with the help of GPS,» shared school student Aiaru Kalbek.
Now, the young researchers plan to integrate ChatGPT into the device. This
will allow the glasses to help users not only navigate their surroundings but
also communicate and answer questions. Currently, the device supports Russian , and in the future,
the students plan to add Kazakh and English.
