The construction
of a large, world-class
ski resort, Almaty Superski, has begun in
Kazakhstan. At a meeting chaired by the country’s Prime Minister Olzhas
Bektenov, issues related to the development of the city’s mountain cluster were
reviewed, and decisions were made on the design and construction of key project
facilities. As part of an open competition for the development of
the recreational zone, leading international companies from France, Canada, and
the U.S. have been selected.
11 modern cableways
with gondolas and chairlifts will be
built by the French company POMA. The company has extensive experience in such
projects
- more than 8,000 in 90 countries.
Meanwhile, an American company will coordinate all stages of work, from design
to construction.
«The decision was made to use environmentally friendly
solutions in the construction of the Almaty Superski resort. The facilities
designed by the architectural firm of Norman Foster will primarily use wooden
structures in the construction of buildings and cable car stations. This
approach is set to reduce the amount of earthwork and mitigate environmental
impact. The structures will be manufactured by the world-renowned Canadian
company StructureCraft,» noted Yerzhan Yerkinbayev,
Chief Executive Officer of the «Kazakh Tourism Development» company.
Olzhas
Bektenov instructed that strict control be ensured over project deadlines and
quality, as well as compliance with international safety standards and
environmental responsibility. Notably, the government
believes the implementation of the Almaty Superski project will give an impetus
to the development of the tourism sector and have a multiplier effect on the
services sector. The launch of the ski resort is scheduled for December 2028.
