In Kazakhstan, the proportion of female professionals employed in the field of information and communication technologies is 5 percent. According to experts, this segment is largely dominated by men. The causes for gender inequality in the local IT-sphere were discussed by the participants of the first “IT-WOMAN 1.0” conference in the Kazakh capital. The founders of successful startups took part in it. They believe that the industry has great growth potential. The most important factors are perseverance and creativity.
“The purpose of this conference is to unite, motivate, and also support talented women in this industry. Many women, when they want to enter this industry, think that IT is programming. IT is not really about only programming. There are many spheres in this field such as cyber security, design, project management and infrastructure,” said an IT specialist Saltanat Mashirova.
“In fact, this is the most interesting sphere. And any sphere that is not considered IT still somehow relates to IT, automation, and digitalization. I have been in this field for four years. This is the most profitable field, especially in Kazakhstan. The country is now investing both in private sector and public sector. A lot of money is invested,” added another specialist Numi Musaliyeva.
