Kazakhstan undergoes statistical reforms

Kazakhstan is systematically implementing measures to strengthen the foundations of state statistics and data management. Zhandos Shaimardanov, chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms, reported to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the ongoing work and current trends in the national and global economies. He also presented proposals for further implementation of structural reforms. By the end of the year, the agency plans to assess the quality of databases of nine state agencies, Shaimardanov noted.

«With the support of members of Parliament, legislative changes have empowered the Bureau of National Statistics to assess the quality of data from administrative sources. These institutional transformations will enable the extension of quality standards and international methodologies to other government entities. By the end of 2024, the agency will also adopt a three-year statistical work plan, which will identify new sources of information. I believe that the initiated reforms in statistics will reduce reporting by up to half while enhancing data quality and trust in official statistics,» Shaimardanov said.
