Kazakhstan’s healthcare achievements and reforms have been highly praised by the World Health Organization. Its Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, outlined key areas including the development of primary healthcare and rural infrastructure, the expansion of health insurance coverage, improved access to services, and the digitalization of the system. He particularly highlighted the growth of the domestic pharmaceutical industry, noting the increase in local production of medicines. This is critical to ensuring sustainable access to essential medicines for the population. In addition, Kazakhstan has achieved a WHO target, becoming one of ten countries to meet the goal of reducing mortality from noncommunicable diseases.
«I’m also glad to see the progress that the country is
making. Kazakhstan is now recognized as a Maturity Level 3 regulatory authority
for medicines. They have been working for many years now to make sure that the
regulatory authority reaches international standards, and it already does. This
is, by the way, the first in the Central Asian countries and also a few from
the world. This will help in the local production, in quality of medicines,» Ghebreyesus said.
