Volume of cargo transported via TITR increases by two-thirds in first half of 2024

The volume of cargo transported via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route increased by 65 percent over six months, reaching more than two million tonnes. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Transport, the comprehensive plan for developing maritime infrastructure until 2028 envisages the creation of a major maritime transport and logistics cluster at the sea ports of Aktau and Kuryk. Several large-scale projects such as dredging operations in the Kuryk port and building a container hub in the Aktau sea port are planned to be carried out as part of the document. Most of them will be funded through private investments, including within the development of the Trans-Caspian route. By 2028, the ports’ capacity is expected to grow by 50 percent. Overall, Kazakhstan is boosting its export-import cargo transportation, with nearly four million tonnes transported by road and around 2.5 million tonnes by transit.

«A significant development was the ratification of an intergovernmental agreement with China on international road transport. Now, Kazakh carriers can deliver goods to industrial and port cities in China and transit through other countries. This year, for the first time, a test transit road transportation was organized from China to Europe via Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea along the China-Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan-Georgia route through the seaports of Kuryk and Baku,» said Lyazzat Stamgaziyeva, spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Transport.
