Kazakh President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting at Akorda with a group of senior UN
representatives. Tokayev thanked the United Nations for its contribution to the
preparation of the Regional Ecological Summit. He particularly emphasized the
importance of coordinated action in addressing challenges, including climate
change and water scarcity. He also noted that the UN plays an indispensable
role as a universal international platform for tackling global issues. The UN
representatives, in turn, commended the organization of the summit and
Kazakhstan’s initiatives presented by Tokayev during the plenary session. The
Head of State reaffirmed commitment to the idea of establishing an
International Water Organization under the auspices of the UN. He also highlighted
the importance of the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals for
Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty as a key platform for regional
cooperation. In conclusion, the President reiterated Kazakhstan’s readiness to
further strengthen cooperation with the UN system.
