A ceremonial welcome for the President of Türkiye,
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was held at the Palace of Independence in Astana. He is
in Kazakhstan on a sttate visit and was personally met by President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In honor of the distinguished guest, fighter jets of the
Air Defense Forces conducted a demonstration flight, painting the sky in the
colors of the Turkish flag. The two heads of state then introduced members of
their official delegations. The commander of the honor guard company delivered
a ceremonial report of greeting, followed by the national anthems of both
countries.
After the solemn ceremony concluded, the Presidents held a meeting in a narrow format. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev warmly welcomed the President of Türkiye, emphasizing that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit carries historical significance.
«Undoubtedly, your current visit will provide a strong impetus to cooperation between our two countries. Kazakhstan and Türkiye share consistently friendly, fraternal relations and an enduring partnership. There are no contradictions or disagreements between our states,» Tokayev said.
In turn, the President of Türkiye expressed his
gratitude to the Head of State for the warm welcome and noted that this visit
would make a significant contribution to strengthening fraternal relations and
advancing cooperation.
The Heads of State then held the sixth meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. In his speech, Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan considers Türkiye a brotherly state and an important, reliable partner. Bilateral relations are developing dynamically. Turkish investments in Kazakhstan’s economy amount to $6 billion, while Kazakh businesses have invested $2.5 billion in Turkish projects. Trade turnover last year exceeded $5.5 billion. Tokayev stressed the importance of creating favorable conditions to expand trade volumes and further diversify trade. Kazakhstan can already increase exports to Türkiye in 34 categories of goods by more than $630 million.
«Türkiye is among our top five trading partners. Cultural and humanitarian ties between our two peoples serve as an invaluable bond in our relations. We are keen to preserve these positive trends and expand the scale of cooperation. Today, we will adopt the Declaration on Eternal Friendship and Expanded Strategic Partnership. Undoubtedly, this important document will give new momentum to the development of Kazakh-Turkish relations,» Tokayev added.
Last year, trade in agricultural products between the two countries increased by more than 25%. The Turkish side was also invited to adopt a Roadmap for 2026-2028 to boost bilateral agricultural trade. Tokayev also called on Turkish companies to actively participate in projects aimed at increasing cargo transportation through the ports of Kuryk and Aktau. The Head of State noted that Türkiye has entered a new phase of socio-economic development and is recognized as the «golden bridge» connecting Europe, Asia, and the Turkic world. For his part, Erdoğan expressed confidence that the new Constitution, which received broad public support in a national referendum, will further strengthen the unity of Kazakhstan.
«We reaffirmed our intention to increase bilateral trade to $15 billion. To achieve this target, we consider it important to ensure the implementation of the 67-point Action Plan adopted at the 14th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in Astana on April 15. We will continue to support companies in the field of investments,» Erdoğan said.
Following the bilateral talks and the sixth meeting of
the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, the Presidents signed the
Declaration on Eternal Friendship and Expanded Strategic Partnership between
Kazakhstan and Türkiye. Members of the official delegations also exchanged 14
interstate, intergovernmental, and interagency documents. Tokayev presented
Erdoğan with the Order of Qoja Ahmet Yasaui, describing him as a visionary
leader and an influential statesman of global stature. Notably, the Turkish leader
became the first recipient of Kazakhstan’s new state order.
