As a leader in promoting global
initiatives, particularly in the Central Asian region, Kazakhstan pays great
attention to environmental sustainability, said Michaela Friberg-Storey, the United
Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator for Kazakhstan, in an exclusive interview
with Silk Way TV channel. According to her, 27 UN agencies and funds operate in
the country at present. Their activities are aimed at supporting initiatives of
the government and civil society, among others. Speaking about the pursuit of sustainable
development goals, Friberg-Storey highlighted Kazakhstan’s proactive efforts in
the digital sector. Particularly, the country is implementing an advanced Digital
Family Map project, which can be scaled up to other countries. The UN will
continue to support the course set by Kazakhstan for further transformation and
development, Friberg-Storey stated.
“Kazakhstan is such a strong
member of the UN, and with such a strong track record of success also in the
multilateralism, whether you talk about sitting in the Security Council or when
it comes to having had very prominent positions in the UN system as well. It is
a remarkable development that Kazakhstan has undergone during the past 30
years. Kazakhstan has an unwavering commitment to the UN Chapter. Kazakhstan is
starting to become a donor and supporting other countries,” she said.
