Two international forums will be held in Astana today. One of them is the meeting of the CIS Council of the Heads of State, which will be held under the chairmanship of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. For the first time in the post-pandemic period, it will be attended by the leaders of almost all participating member states in person. The meeting agenda includes discussion of the further development and strengthening of ties in the trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and security areas. It is expected that the countries’ leaders will approve the next three-year program of cooperation in countering terrorism and extremism. In conclusion of the meeting, President Tokayev will sum up the results of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the CIS. The first Central Asia-Russia summit is another important event to be held today. The Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Russia will discuss the prospects for further cooperation in the six-party format. Following the talks, it is planned to adopt the Joint Statement on regional cooperation in the Eurasian space.
