Turkmenistan launches its first dry cargo vessel

An important event for Turkmenistan’s transport sector — a new dry cargo vessel has been launched at the country’s seaport. It was built to international standards at a local shipyard in cooperation with South Korean partners. The ship can carry up to 240 twenty-foot containers (TEUs). Another vessel is expected to be commissioned in the country by the end of the year. Experts say the cargo ships will ensure regular transport links between Caspian states and contribute to the expansion of international cooperation in the region.

«The vessel has been specially designed for both sea and river navigation. It is intended for transporting general cargo and containers to neighboring countries, including Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Russia. With a carrying capacity of 6,100 tonnes and full compliance with international standards, the vessel will ensure efficient logistics,» said Bairamberdy Abdugapurov, an engineer at Balkan Shipbuilding and Repair Yard.

«The location of Turkmenbashi International Seaport makes it possible to fully leverage the potential of the Trans-Caspian transport corridors linking East and West. The operation of the vessel will not only help optimize domestic transport flows but also enable the country to offer international partners reliable and advanced logistics solutions,» said Berdymammet Ashirov, an inspector at the Port Supervision Service.
