A commemorative coin dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence was issued in Turkey. Its design was developed jointly with the Kazakh Consulate General. A total of 3,000 silver 30 lire coins were issued. The weight of one coin is 31 grams and its diameter is 38 millimeters. On the obverse of the coin there is a national flag and an inscription ‘30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence’. A map of Kazakhstan is depicted in the center of the reverse side. The word ‘Turk’ is inscribed in the language of the Orkhon-Yenisey monuments on the upper side of the coin. It depicts the Kazakh traditional ornament as well.
“We wanted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Independence in a special way. The Turkish State Mint gladly agreed to do it. This coin is a tribute to our history, independence and statehood on the part of Turkey. I would like to note that the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence in Istanbul will continue,” said Alim Bayel, Kazakh Consul General in Istanbul.
“Founded during the Ottoman Empire, the mint has for centuries been the main place for the production of banknotes, certificates, passports, state medals and securities. Today, for the first time in history, we are issuing a commemorative coin dedicated to Kazakhstan. It is a great honor for us to celebrate the independence of our fraternal country,” said Abdullah Yasir Sahin, Director General, Turkish State Mint.
