Trees to be planted in mountains of Almaty

The forest fund of the Ile-Alatau State National Natural Park is planned to be restored this year. Foresters have to plant trees on 47 hectares. Seedlings for the future forest are grown in the nurseries of the Kaskelen forestry. It is said that, on average, deciduous seedlings grow for a year, conifers - 4-5 years. 20,000 seedlings are planned to be planted this year.

“We have been preparing plots for future planting and harvesting seeds from the fall. Over the summer, they require 3-4 weeding, loosening the soil and watering. We need to care trees as our own children. By winter, we cover plants with sawdust to protect them from frost. When they reach a height of about 15 centimeters, we plant them in the mountains,” said Orynbasar Karnakov, a staff of the Kaskelen Gorge Forests.

“Hardwoods are planted in October, thus, we start setting out a year-old plant on the plot. The height should not exceed 2,000 meters - from 1,600 to 2,000 meters above sea level. The height of coniferous breeds is from 2,000 to 2,500 meters above sea level,” said Bakhtiyar Nurlanov, Director of the Aksai Branch, Ile-Alatau National Park.
