Rehabilitation of housing for flood-affected Kazakh citizens begins

More than 85,000 Kazakh citizens, including about 30,000 children, have been evacuated from residential areas due to floods. According to the country’s Ministry for Emergency Situations, rescue operations are carried out around the clock, involving around 16,000 people and over 2,500 units of equipment. Over eight million cubic meters of floodwater have been pumped out, and shore protection works are underway. Upon the instruction of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, those affected by the floods will receive one-time payments from local authorities, with the amount to be determined by special commissions. The Head of State has instructed the government to utilize the state material reserve and provide assistance to residents. According to the Ministry of Industry and Construction, a comprehensive plan that includes the construction of new housing for those affected by the natural disaster, has already been developed.

“As part of the plan, two draft projects of residential buildings have been developed. One is a three-room detached house covering an area of 80 square meters, and the other is a two-apartment building with a total area of 160 square meters. These housing projects are currently undergoing state expertise, which will ensure a standardized approach across all regions. The work will be completed by the end of next week, and the standardized projects will be made available to the public on the epsd.kz website with the conclusion of state expertise,” said Meruyert Ibrayeva, spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Construction.
