Kazakhstan is set to assist in resolving issues of delimitation of state boundaries, the country’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during his speech at the Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian countries, which takes place in Cholpon-Ata city, Kyrgyzstan. President Tokayev proposed to create an expert platform to work out mutually acceptable approaches to delimit boundaries. He emphasized that experienced lawyers, cartographers, border guards and other specialists must be involved in this work. The Council of Foreign Ministers can take lead on coordination.
“Delaying in dealing with or ignoring this set of problems is fraught with their escalation and, eventually, may derail all efforts to deepen cooperation in the Central Asian region. As the only post-Soviet country that fully delimited its long boundary, Kazakhstan is ready to provide all possible assistance in the search for mutually acceptable solutions,” the president said.
The heads of the Central Asian countries will sign several documents at the end of the summit. Among them is the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness, and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the 21st century. This historical record marks a new milestone in the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
