Will the seventh convocation of the Kazakh Parliament be dissolved after the constitutional reforms? How long will the current composition hold the parliamentary seats? The country’s Vice Minister of Justice Alma Mukanova answered these questions during a special press conference. According to her, the new procedure for the formation of the two houses of the Parliament will be applied with the entry into office of the Mazhilis members of the next, already the eighth convocation. Its provisions were approved by the referendum.
“Journalists are asking us: "Will the seventh convocation be dissolved after the constitutional reforms?" I would like to note that there are currently no discussions on dissolving the members of the seventh convocation of the Parliament. They will continue their activities until the end of the first half of 2026,” said Alma Mukanova, Kazakh Vice Minister of Justice.
In the nationwide referendum, the vast majority of Kazakh citizens voted in favor of amendments to the country's basic law. According to them, the presidential quota in the upper house will be reduced to 10 senators. Mazhilis will be elected by a majority-proportional model.
