Tajikistan aims to become a full-fledged transit hub. To
achieve this, the country plans to build and reconstruct around 1,000
kilometers of roads, bridges, and avalanche protection corridors over the next
few years. One example is the Dangara–Guliston highway, which will be the
country’s first road adapted to climate change and equipped with modern
environmental features. Construction began in November of last year and is
currently underway at 17 sites, including the installation of onsite
infrastructure. The road is being modernized to meet international standards.
With a total length of over 49 kilometers, it is expected to be expanded to
four lanes and enhanced with bicycle paths, pedestrian sidewalks, and lighting.
The reconstruction is being carried out with support from the Asian Development
Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as part of the
pilot project “Green Corridor”.
