Slovakia is Kazakhstan’s key and reliable partner in Europe, President Tokayev says

Last year, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Slovakia reached $140 million. The development of bilateral cooperation was discussed today at the Akorda presidential palace. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico arrived in Astana on an official visit. During their one-on-one meeting, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the visit would strengthen the partnership and open up new opportunities for cooperation. The talks then continued in an expanded format with the participation of both countries’ delegations. President Tokayev emphasized that Slovakia is one of Kazakhstan’s key partners within the European Union (EU).

«A meaningful political dialogue has been established between Astana and Bratislava. Cooperation is actively expanding across the trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. A legal and contractual framework is in place. Mutual trade continues to grow steadily. More than 30 Slovak companies are successfully operating in Kazakhstan,» Tokayev said.

The Head of State proposed further diversifying the framework of cooperation, highlighting new opportunities in energy, industrial production, agriculture, logistics, digitalization, and critical raw materials. Kazakhstan is ready to export oil, gas, uranium, and food products to Slovakia. To enhance trade and investment cooperation, he suggested strengthening the role of the Intergovernmental Commission and elevating its co-chairs to the ministerial level.

«There is considerable potential for cooperation in the military-technical sphere. In addition, during the talks, we discussed the possibility of jointly leveraging the potential of one of the strategically important trade routes - the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor. I invited our Slovak partners to take part in this project, which could open new horizons for bilateral trade,» Tokayev added.

The two countries will also strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties, with a significant role to be played by young people studying at universities in Kazakhstan and Slovakia. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Robert Fico highlighted the deep historical roots of bilateral relations, recalling the contribution of Kazakh soldiers to the liberation of Slovakia during World War II. They also noted the alignment of their countries’ positions on many global trends and challenges, emphasizing the importance both sides attach to multilateral diplomacy.
