They will be implemented in Shymkent, as well as Karagandy, Zhambyl and East Kazakhstan regions, Kazakh Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Beibut Atamkulov announced at a briefing. The implementation of these projects will increase domestic production of metal products, including ferroalloys, building bars and welded steel pipes, he said. Overall, the manufacturing industry is expected to grow by almost 6 percent in 2021. Atamkulov also announced the launch of three new projects in the chemical industry in the country.
“In the chemical industry, the volume index is expected to reach 102 percent due to an increase in the output of the large enterprises of the industry, whose share amounts to 57 percent. We plan to increase the production of phosphorus fertilizers by 16 percent, ammophos by 15 percent, ammonium nitrate by 10 percent and chromium compounds by 13 percent,” Atamkulov said.
The development of all industries in the country is favourably influenced by the conditions created in the special economic zones, Atamkulov said. Since the beginning of the year, nine projects worth 285 billion tenge (US$667.4 million) have been implemented there. They allowed the country to establish the production of IT products, as well as textiles and medical products.
“On the instructions of the Head of State, we are currently developing approaches to enhancing the activities of special economic zones. Emphasis is given to supporting domestic producers. Approaches are being improved to further develop local content. Corresponding legislative amendments are being developed to this end. Work is currently underway to conclude voluntary agreements with subsoil users to meet the minimal level of local content in procurement,” the minister added.
