Shymkent Airport is expanding its international flight
offerings, with direct routes to seven major cities in Europe and Asia
launching this year. Air service has already been established with Munich and
Budapest, along with new flights to Shanghai, Seoul, and Cairo. Starting in
July, passengers will also be able to fly directly to the Chinese cities of
Xi'an and Urumqi. Notably, the airport’s apron has been modernized, and new
aircraft parking stands have been built. The launch of these routes marks the
beginning of a large-scale initiative to develop an international air hub in
Kazakhstan's third-largest city.
«According to the eQonaq information portal, around 6,000
foreign tourists visited Shymkent in the first quarter of this year alone. It’s
worth noting that this figure covers only the first quarter. With the launch of
direct flights, an increase in tourist traffic from European countries is
expected,» Beksultan Adilkhanov, Head of Shymkent’s Department of Tourism,
External Relations and Creative Industry.
