Sequel to «My Name is Kozha» filmed in Kazakhstan

The legendary Kozha is back! Soon, Kazakh audiences will have the chance to see the sequel to director Abdulla Karsakbayev’s film, based on Berdibek Sokpakbaev’s novel «My Name is Kozha.» The original film became a classic of children’s cinema in the last century. Notably, viewers will easily recognize the new main character.

Actor Aikyn Elubai plays the lead role in the film. His brother was the first to notice the teenager's striking resemblance to the character from a beloved film cherished by generations. A video posted on social media turned out to be life-changing, catching the attention of the director.

«This movie was very popular. At first, I felt that I wouldn’t be able to convincingly portray this character on screen. However, I passed the casting and prepared carefully for the filming over four months,» Elubai shared.

During those years, many moments from the script were not realized. In the new film, the director sought to reflect elements that were previously restricted by censors. The main objective is to create domestic content that educates the younger generation.

«Our task was to remake «My Name is Kozha.» However, we also wanted to create something new. Through the lens of those years, we aimed to depict topics that were previously not explored on the big screen,» said Sadyk Sherimbek, head of the creative group.

According to the director's vision, the ages of the main characters in the film have been slightly adjusted. In the original, Kozha and his friends are in the 5th and 6th grades, while in the sequel, they are in the 8th and 9th grades.
