Kazakhstan adopted regulations on the trans-border transport of hazardous wastes. Ratification of the agreement on the cross-border movement of such goods through the customs territory of the EAEU was adopted by the Senate. According to the Kazakh Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Serikkali Brekeshev, in case of return of the cargo, the sender will be obliged to remove it in an environmentally safe way. It is about processing, preparation, sorting and treatment of waste. The document does not provide for burial.
“The agreement defines a unified procedure for the movement of hazardous waste between the EAEU member states. It will also provide a legal framework for the exchange of information on the conclusions issued and violations detected during such transportation. We hope that in the future this law will ensure environmentally sound waste disposal and recycling, as well as the prevention of environmental pollution,” said Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairperson of the Senate, the Upper House of Kazakh Parliament.
