Investment in the Abai region continues to grow, increasing
by more than 19%. Governor Berik Uali reported to President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev on the region’s socio-economic development. The number of investment
projects included in the overall pool has increased fourfold, from 29 to 112.
Their value has doubled, reaching 4.5 trillion tenge. Among the largest
projects are the construction of the Ayagoz–Bakhty railway line, a new thermal
power plant in Semei, and a mining and processing plant. President Tokayev was
also informed about efforts to establish a special economic zone in the
regional center, where production projects worth 400 billion tenge are expected
to be launched. As part of the development of the tourist area around Lake
Alakol, the region will modernize infrastructure and reconstruct the airport
terminal in Urjar. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of State gave a
number of specific instructions aimed at strengthening efforts to attract
investment. The President also emphasized the need to hold the Abaiga Qurmet event
at a proper level.
