Over 3,000 aspiring engineers gathered for Almaty Tech Cup
2025, the largest robotics competition in Central Asia, which has been held
since 2014. Alongside Kazakhstan, around 20 teams from India, Türkiye, Turkmenistan,
the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan took part in the championship. This year,
the event’s theme focused on exploring global challenges related to water
resources and the underwater world. Participants built robots and developed
projects for ecosystem monitoring and marine flora and fauna restoration.
School students across four age groups presented scientific developments and
innovative startup projects. Winners were awarded the Mayor’s Cup and grants to
study at leading universities in Kazakhstan. The top teams are set to represent
the country at the world’s largest robotics championship in the U.S.
«We put a lot of effort into preparing for this competition,
as we regularly take part in similar events. Our goal is to win and secure a
spot in Houston. We strive to showcase our knowledge and continue developing
our engineering skills,» said participant Aikhanym Shamshadin.
«Kazakh school students have shown tremendous potential,
winning the championship title at the FIRST Global Challenge robotics
competition three times. In 2022, they surpassed 180 countries to take first
place in Geneva, Switzerland. The following year, in Singapore, they retained
their title, ranking first among 191 countries. In 2024, Kazakhstan once again
secured the top spot among 182 countries in Athens, Greece,» said Nurlybek
Nurzhanov, project manager at USTEM Foundation.
