Kazakhstan will increase the number of roads that meet international quality standards. This year, 9,500 kilometers of highways will undergo reconstruction works. Among them, 6,500 kilometers belong to the roads of national significance. Reconstruction will be carried out on a site with a length of almost 4,000 kilometers, more than 2,000 kilometers will be repaired. Compared to 2021, the length of the roads put into operation will be increased by as much as three times. Thus, almost half of the routes of the first and second categories will meet international quality standards. In general, to date, 90 percent of roads of national significance and 80 percent of local roads have already been brought into standard condition. By the end of the year, 74 percent of roadside service facilities will meet national quality standards.
“We intend to open traffic on 1,600 km long road sections within 3,900 km of highways. This is the highway from Taldykorgan to Oskemen, sections of roads from Aktobe, Atyrau to Astrakhan as well as roads from Karagandy to Balkhash, from Balkhash to Almaty. All sections in these directions will be completely reconstructed and modernized,” said Gabit Shymyrbayev, a spokesperson of Roads Committee, Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development.
