Big data safeguards the interests of Kazakh citizens. The
annual national Qazdatathon competition was held in Astana. Its goal is to
engage young people in the use, management, and analysis of statistical
indicators while promoting data-driven decision-making in socio-economic
policy. The event was organized by the Bureau of National Statistics. Seven
finalist teams presented proposals in the field of employment. In their
projects, they used programs for processing and visualizing big data. The top
project focused on the informal labor market, analyzing which young people work
«unofficially», that is, without signing an employment contract. The study
identified their current share in the labor market and projected future trends.
According to the organizers, the winners will have the opportunity to
collaborate with government agencies and participate in further research
initiatives.
«Overall, the Bureau of National Statistics has long been
committed to promoting the use of data. We have developed a variety of
services, including a researcher’s office where scientific organizations,
researchers, and analysts can access data in an anonymized format,» said Maksat
Turlubayev, Head of the Bureau of National Statistics.
«Government agencies work with this regularly, and subtle
correlations may go unnoticed. Projects like these help bring a fresh
perspective, especially from the younger
generation, offering a new viewpoint. This approach could very well prove
effective,» said competition participant Amirlan Nurgazin.
