The multimodal freight center and the free trade zone are planned to be established at the airport in the Kazakh capital. A whole aerotropolis is going to be built there in 13 years. It will be an Airport City with a concentration of infrastructure and economy like in airports in Atlanta, New York, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Singapore, announced Daulet Khamzin, First Deputy Chairperson of the Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport. He noted that the airport of the main city in Kazakhstan aims to become the leading passenger and cargo airport of the CIS and Central Asian regions. It is planned to be converted into a multifunctional enterprise with enormous transport capabilities by 2025.
“In the first stage, we plan to make the airport the main gate of the country in terms of passenger traffic and the number of flights operated. Next, we will launch a multimodal transit center and create a free trade zone, following the example of the special economic zones at UAE airports. In 10-15 years, it will become an Airport City. These projects will be included in the master plan for the development of our capital,” said Khamzin.
