At a meeting of the national
headquarters for coordination of flood control measures and elimination of
their consequences, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined the main
tasks, including timely evacuation, provision of necessary assistance to flood
victims, round-the-clock monitoring of the epidemiological situation in the
flooded areas, and preparation for spring fieldwork. On the instructions of the
Kazakh President special equipment and other necessary resources have been dispersed
from the state material reserve. The country’s Ministry of Industry and Construction
has been instructed to form a task force for on-site coordination of all works
on housing restoration, social infrastructure, and utility facilities. Kazakh
residents should have the opportunity to monitor the progress of housing
restoration works in real time, the Head of State noted. By the year end,
Kazakhstan should develop a long-term flood management strategy and adopt
corresponding program documents.
