Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received
Askhat Khassenov, Acting Chairman of the Management Board of the KazMunayGas (KMG)
national company, who reported on the company’s performance for the first
quarter of 2024. Khassenov detailed the progress of constructing a polyethylene
production plant with a capacity of over one million tonnes per year in the
Atyrau region. He also reported on the gas fields launched in 2023 and the
geological exploration work to replenish reserves and maintain oil production
levels. Specifically, KMG will conduct deep drilling to a depth of 5,500 meters
in the Turgai Paleozoic site in the Kyzylorda region and drill a well in the
Abai area in the Caspian Sea. One of the major investment projects involves the
building of a hybrid power station in Zhanaozen. In conclusion of the meeting,
President Tokayev gave instructions to attract major investors to geological
exploration and the petrochemical industry.
