President Tokayev discusses energy cooperation with Chinese companies

During his working visit to China, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Liu Mingsheng, Chairman of the Board of State Power Investment Corporation. The parties discussed prospects for further cooperation in the energy sector, including in renewable energy sources. The Head of State was informed that a China Power International Holding subsidiary is actively operating in Kazakhstan. Over the past five years, wind and solar power plants have been built in the country. New projects for the construction of wind power plants with a capacity of one gigawatt are currently underway in the Zhambyl and Pavlodar regions. Investments in these projects will exceed $1 billion. It is planned to consider large-scale hydropower projects and the construction of combined-cycle gas turbines in Kazakhstan as well.

Today, President Tokayev has also held a meeting with Chairman of one of the largest construction machinery companies in the world Xiang Wenbo to discuss the implementation of joint projects in green energy. The corporation is already involved in the launch of a wind power station and is considering building a factory for assembling towers, blades, and nacelles for similar projects. The Head of State emphasized the prospects of joint production of specialized machinery, offering the Chinese company to explore the possibility of opening a regional center for the EAEU market in the country.
